We’re Providing Health Care in the Language of Your Choice
University of Louisville Hospital’s Language Services Department team members took their message on the road this past weekend by participating in the 8th Annual Hispanic/Latino Health Fair at the Americana Community Center.
More than 400 people attended the event which provided health screenings and health information to the Louisville Spanish-speaking community. Cara Martinez, Language Services Supervisor coordinated UofL Health Care’s sponsorship of the event and participation.
“We felt it was important to be involved with this event not only because we are a primary healthcare provider for a large portion of the Hispanic/Latino community but to also educate attendees regarding the interpreter services and language resources available here at UofL Health Care. It’s also important to inform people of their rights with respect to fully understanding and participating in their health care experience,” says Cara.
“It is our intent to be a leader in educating patients and families that they are entitled to receive health care in the language of their choice.”
